You must hold true. I tell you now, mortal traveler, that there is no easy way out of Faerie. The only way out is to stay known to oneself. Yet fae are greedy and capricious things, and their realm is no different. It will attempt to strip you of all things that you are, all the texture and uniqueness. It will wear you down to nothing with deals, deception, and all the time that they have and you do not.

You must hold true. One day you may look into a glass and your reflection will be unknown to you, your body warped and reshaped, but a piece of you will still be yours, and you may walk out of Faerie with some piece of you left.

You must hold true. I have said it to you thrice, so you know I cannot lie.

CONTENT WARNINGS: This game is about, in many ways, emotional trauma and about loss of self. It is about manipulation and trickery.

Root & Knot is a solo journaling tabletop game about escaping Faerie with fundamental truths about yourself intact, changed, and lost along the way, if you can escape at all.

This game is made to be written on, defaced, and changed. It can be played without a physical copy with some careful notetaking, but it may not be the same experience.

It requires 3d10s, a deck of playing cards, and a place to document your journey.
